TEENAGER’S BEDROOM TRANSFORMED

The teenage girl who lived in this room decided she needed a redo before senior year. The room was full of keepsakes and overstuffed with clothes, shoes and childhood toys. The walls were covered with posters and art projects. Her desk was a repository for stuff. The young woman wanted a clean, calm, grown-up, organized space where she could focus on her last year of high school and look forward to the time when she would visit on college vacations and where her parents could host guests when she wasn’t there.

The first step was to clean out the room entirely. The young woman got rid of many items. The old carpet came up and a new, affordable laminate floor was installed. The paint palate Joanna suggested for the bedroom was cool and light. The room appears larger now. Joanna tore out the desk and random shelves and removed storage furniture that cramped the space. She added a shallow, tall storage cabinet that keeps things behind closed doors and is easier to organize. The existing built in shelves got labeled bins. The look is clean and it’s easy to tell where items are. A new wall mounted storage unit serves as more storage and a bedside table at the same time and doesn’t take up floor space. The new full size bedframe has under bed drawer storage. The bed’s position was moved to create space. A cool blue paint serves as a visual headboard.

The young  woman and her parents are very happy with the newly grown-up space. Guests are comfortable there and it is a calm and organized place to come home to for a short or an extended visit.
